Nebraska Law Sets Limits on Abortion

YOU MAY NOT PUT YOUR LAWS ON PEOPLE'S BODIES
I know a lot of people that were almost aborted. My own family urged my mother to abort me. I have heard this used as an argument for placing bans and/or restrictions on abortion. I am not convinced. Even though I almost never existed, as did several of my friends, I wouldn't change a thing. There are a million reasons for why a person might want to abort a fetus and nobody gets to decide which are valid and which aren't. Nobody gets to decide how a person uses their body except for them!

And can I just say that the majority of the people making these laws are cis men. That's right, how many of them have had to consider the possibility that their bodies are not their own in the most literal sense? That they can suddenly find their body taken hostage by a fetus and that they might not be able to stop it at all. Or that their partner can walk out at any time, leaving them with the biggest responsibility life can offer them? (Which isn't to say that women don't abandon men with the responsibility of a child, but societally it's much more acceptable and common for men to do so.)

Fine, you wouldn't get an abortion. I get it. Don't force others to make the same decision as you.

And who gets to decide when a fetus gains person-hood anyway? In that case, we might as well just stop using protection altogether since you're preventing a potential new life. There is no scientific test we can conduct. There is no magic number. All we can do is leave the decision up to the person that's pregnant.

And the first person who says that all these problems can be solved by giving up unwanted children for adoption is getting punched. There are countless reasons why that is not an option for people. And they still have to be pregnant. I realize I am biased but I hate the idea that the people making these laws have probably never considered the realities of being born into a female body.

Apologies for whatever fail may be included in this entry. It's 4:21 am and I can't think beyond RAEG.
