New York

I am in New York City. It is 4:00 AM and I am sitting on my bed in my dorm across from the window. My roommates are asleep. I can hear the sound of all three fans rotating from side to side, though not see them. My pillow which does not smell like home but does smell like Target is pressed against the wall behind my back. My left shoulder blade is digging into the plaster and the sensation is oddly satisfying- a counterpoint for the softnesss warmed by body head. I cannot help but look up. My window looks out onto the Hudson. I can see the pinpricks of hundreds of lights wavering in the darkness. I have been here for three week and for the first time I have truly realized that I am in New York City.

Thought: Are there new constellations in the streets of new york in lieu of the old ones in the sky?
