In Soviet Russia...
Jan. 12th, 2010 04:00 amHow do Russians deal with the cold? according to CNN.
I am not even sure what to say. I find it hilarious that the entire western world, especially America, has decided that Russia is THE cold place. I know it's cold, but seriously? Canada is cold too people.
Also, there is a wildly offensive mistranslation at 1:15 where the man is explaining how to stay warm. He says "dress warmly" not "drink vodka". Maybe he also says "drink vodka" but I definitely didn't hear it beneath the interpreter.
My mom's entire office thinks she goes home and drinks vodka every night. My mom NEVER drinks vodka. Yes it is much more common in Russian, but can we get over this caricature of the drunkard Russian? It's old.
And for the record: I hate the cold. I am miserable in anything below 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
